Being locked out of an account is stressful, but there is almost always a way back in. The process depends on whether it is your Windows login, a work account, a personal Google or Microsoft account, or a phone. Follow the section that matches your situation.

## Windows Login — Microsoft Account

If you sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account (your email address), you can reset your password from any device with internet access.

1. On the Windows login screen, click “I forgot my PIN” or “Reset password” below the password field.
2. You will be directed to account.live.com/password/reset on another device (phone, tablet, or another computer).
3. Enter your Microsoft account email address and complete the identity verification — Microsoft will send a code to your recovery email or phone number.
4. Create a new password and sign in.

If you do not have access to your recovery email or phone number, Microsoft has a longer account recovery process at account.live.com/acsr — expect it to take 24–48 hours.

## Windows Login — Local Account

A local Windows account is not linked to an email address — the password only exists on that computer. Recovery options are more limited.

**On Windows 10/11:**
1. At the login screen, click “Reset password” (only appears for local accounts with security questions set up).
2. Answer your three security questions to reset the password.

If no security questions were set up, you may need a Windows installation USB to access recovery tools, or you may need to contact a technician. Klaravex can help — call us before attempting anything that could wipe your data.

## Microsoft 365 / Work Account

Work accounts managed by an employer or IT administrator cannot be reset by the account holder alone — the admin controls these accounts.

1. Contact your IT administrator or helpdesk and ask them to reset your password or unlock your account.
2. If your company uses Microsoft 365’s self-service password reset (SSPR), go to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com — enter your work email and follow the verification steps.
3. After a reset, you will be prompted to create a new password on your next login.

If your work uses Klaravex as your IT provider, we can reset Microsoft 365 passwords and unlock accounts directly from the admin portal. Call or chat with Loki and we will get you back in within minutes.

## Google Account Recovery

If you are locked out of your personal Gmail or Google Workspace account:

1. Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery.
2. Enter your email address and click “Forgot password.”
3. Google will try several verification methods in order: send a code to your recovery phone, send a code to your recovery email, or ask security questions.
4. If you are on a trusted device (one you have used with this Google account before), Google may let you confirm your identity with just a tap.
5. Once verified, create a new password.

If you no longer have access to any recovery method, Google’s account recovery form asks you to verify your identity manually — this process can take several days and is not guaranteed to succeed. This is why setting up recovery options before you are locked out is important.

## iPhone or Android Locked Out

**iPhone — forgotten passcode:**
1. If you have a recent iCloud backup, you can erase and restore your iPhone via Recovery Mode.
2. Connect your iPhone to a computer, put it in Recovery Mode (instructions vary by model — search “iPhone Recovery Mode” on Apple’s support site for your specific model), and use iTunes or Finder to restore.
3. Your iPhone passcode will be cleared and you can set a new one. You can then restore your data from iCloud backup.

**Android — forgotten PIN/password:**
1. After several failed unlock attempts, most Android phones show a “Forgot PIN” or “Forgot Password” option.
2. Sign in with your Google account to unlock.
3. If that option is not available, a factory reset via the phone’s recovery menu is usually the last resort (this erases data not backed up to Google).

## When Your MFA Device Is Lost or Replaced

If you set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and your phone was lost, stolen, or replaced:

– **Microsoft 365:** Your IT admin can remove MFA from your account temporarily so you can sign in and set up a new MFA device.
– **Google:** Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery and select “Try another way.” If you previously saved backup codes, use one of those. If not, Google’s identity verification process applies.
– **General tip:** Most authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) offer cloud backup options — enabling these before you lose your phone is the best prevention.
